...to write a book! My college friend Jenn and I were chatting in a coffee shop over chai tea lattes about the burning idea within both of us to write a book for teen girls. I'm not sure what will come of this, if anything, but I'm so thankful to have a friend who is likeminded on so many levels.
My heart has been to develop a resource for teen girls that goes beyond the cheesy norm of what many books offer them. Instead of focusing so much on what not to do, I would like to give them standards of holiness and living to go against the flow of the worlds ideals. I want to focus on holiness and being set apart (yet still very much present in their world)and how they can practically live their faith in their relationships, with their parents, their friends, teachers, etc. I would love to address the "comparison game" we often play ("What that girl is doing is definitely not as bad as anything I'm doing or ever will do."). I feel also that many girls have a crisis of entitlement, meaning that as we grow up we're taught that if we work hard, we'll get what we want and someday our prince will come. We figure that we must deserve happiness, but we're at a loss for understanding what true happiness means. Along with this comes a right understanding of our emotions and our thoughts. And, what of the girls who are fabulous girls but remain single? Are they any less of human beings and individuals because their prince has not come? We have so many mixed up ideas...my heart is heavy to address so much. Perhaps I should just begin...
Jenn has a passion to direct her writing toward the "good girl" or girls who have been raised in a Christian home and who have a desire to dig deeper but aren't encouraged in that way in their youth groups, churches, homes and schools.
This is all quite the beginnings, but it's exciting to see some thoughts flowing.
