Adelynne's First Birthday

Alright, I've decided to get back into blogging on our family blog! Oh how I've missed this! Considering my last post was the end of January, I've got a bit of catching up to do. Addy is now 13 months and some change.

A current picture taken just yesterday on our little walk.

The morning of her actual birthday day! She got to wake up with Da Da because Mama had to be at work, unfortunately...homemade Zucchini Applesauce Muffins for breakfast!

Balloons!!! She loved them and kept saying "Ba." I blew up a few polka-dot balloons before I went to work at 5 am. And then I brought her home some balloons when I got off! My little girl is 1!!!!!

Mema stopped by with some fun gifts the day of her b day! She loves her kitty!
Then Da Da, Mama and Addy went on an ADVENTURE!!! First stop, our local cupcake shop for her very first cupcake! She picked out a yellow cupcake with white frosting and raspberry filling and top.

What a fun start to our day!
Then off to Ceramic CafĂ© to make a "project." We think this might be a yearly tradition, adding to our tiles! Addy donated her foot and hand to the project!

Then off to open her first savings account at the same bank Da Da had his first account in!
 Finally, dinner at Red Robin!!

Sittee and Jidu came for a visit for her birthday too!
Behold...her very first CAAAAR! I had a cozy coupe when I was young too and LOVED it!

With Nanny!! "Look Nanny, I can walk!"
 Getting reacquainted with her Papa!

 Uncle SMEAGOL!!!

The cupcakes and candy table at the party~

Stoppin for some much needed sips with Auntie Abbie at the party!
 SMASH THAT CAKE BABY!

 SITTEE!!!

The beags even came to the party!!

 Opening gifts!!

We had a wonderful first birthday party for her in the park. I went with a polka-dot theme for the party with colors of purple, pink, teal and green. I made vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with butter cream and cream cheese frosting's. The dessert table was set up like a little candy shop. Aunt Lizzie made some hand-written signs that said, "Adelynne's Candy Shop," and "Thanks for being so sweet, please have a treat!" I tiered the cupcakes down the table and had different glass jars and mason jars of round candy the colors of her polka-dots. Polka-dot take home baggies were available for kids young and old to make up their own take home baggie of goodies.

I didn't go crazy with her cake this year. I had a friend who took a cake decorating class to make her daughters first cake. What a fabulous idea! Perhaps next year I'll get a bit more daring. But this year I decided to go healthy with a no-sugar banana applesauce cake. I made a cream cheese frosting for the top and designed a "1" out of fresh blueberries. The idea was of course a smash cake. She didn't get as crazy as I thought she might. Mama had to help out a bit with the smashing and smearing to let her know it was okay to get messy!

We're so thankful for all of the friends and family that came and helped set up and attended the party. Addy was VERY blessed with many toys, clothes and other goodies. She had a few toys prior to her birthday but not like it is now! She has such fun playing with everything. Someone gave her her first coloring book and crayons and we've had some fun with that. She will actually sit on my lap at the table and color with me! I can't wait till she can do more with me, including cooking and baking! CANNOT WAIT!

She's a little personality, I'll tell you! She loves to now say "Mama" and "Da Da." She also speaks fluently: "Cocoa," "Beags," "Car (sounds like an East Coaster when she says it: "Caaaa"), "Sittee," "Jidu," "Papa" (We're working on "Mema" but it comes out "Mama") "Ball," "Baby," "See," "Go Go,"

Adelynne laughs from the gut! She's taken to chasing after Cocoa with her popcorn vacuum (it use to be Josh's toy when he was little) and she laughs so hard as she does that. Poor Beags. His life will never be the same. But they really are becoming good buds.

About a month ago, Addy started sleeping great thru the night, which has been AWESOME! She goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:30 and will sleep till about 7 am. She's a rock star! I still feed her a bit before bed and sometimes in the morning because she starts to lift up my shirt for some morning comforts! I really think it's more about comfort for her because my supply isn't what it use to be!

This morning was her last of four mornings of swim class! The first day all of her Grandparents got to be there and even Auntie Lizzie. Today they worked on going under water! YIKES! I was a little scared for her but she made it through two little dips under. Josh has loved this time with her in the water and before we even signed her up about a month ago he bought her three swim suits on clearance because he was so excited to get her in the water! Proud Da Da!

Speaking of Da Da...he's a bit concerned that so far all of Addy's friends her age are all BOYS!! Ha! I do believe he will be working on cleaning his shot gun for future dates! Poor Da Da.

Personally, I'm becoming more and more content in this season of mothering. I'll admit it's been a HUGE change for me and its also quite a sacrificial and humbling experience. I've been able to get to church more than I was but those Sunday mornings are very long for Addy. She's taken to the nursery now, which is helpful. I've been able to work at the coffee stand and then go into Sunday school with the junior highers and usually service after that. We've discovered keeping Addy in nursery till after service is best, but it is a very long morning for her. There are days when I just leave after Sunday school and get her home and down for a nap.

Josh and I have been able to go out on a few dates after a long gap of no dates (Thanks to great Grandparents on both sides!). Our most favorite date was a cooking class we took through Portland Culinary Workshop! Boy talk about a fun night! They instructed us on how to make a beautiful four course dinner and at the end we got to sit with all of the other couples and enjoy what we made. Super fun! We even met a wonderful Christian couple who have worked with Young Life for years. It was something new for both of us and truly inspired us to cook more together at home. Loved it!

I will say that the longer we are married, the more in love I am with Josh. There's something about going through the good and the bad together that makes you more bonded than when you were dating. There's something to be said for love tested by fire and for building a life-time of experiences together. He's such a great husband and father and despite the times we disagree and are at each others throats, I can't imagine starting over or experiencing this with anyone else. We're a good fit for each other. I learn from him and he from me. There's a trust in our relationship that we haven't always had, or at least to the degree we do now.
