A super fun (and messy) family activity for us was making homemade "Cloud Sand." Josh came home one day just in time to join Addy and I in this activity. I was so glad for his presence and involvement.
I got this idea via Pinterest from Nurture Store and used their recipe for the activity.
Four Parts Flour
1 Part Vegetable Oil (or baby oil; we used Vegetable Oil)
Chalk (for color)
I let Addy pour the flour in the tub (with some help). "Ohhh messy, Mama, messy."
Then we poured in the oil and mixed with our hands. Talk about some messy sensory fun!
Once it started to form into a ball (sort of like cookie dough), I grated one large pink chalk stick and one large blue chalk stick. I first grated the pink on the regular size grate and then tried the blue on the finest grate. The result gave us little pink specs in our final cloud sand...which was sort of cool!
Again we mixed it until it was all a beautiful color throughout...sort of a teal.
We added some sand toys for play. Cookie cutters also work great.
The cloud sand can be stored in a ziplock bag and stored in a cool dry place for further play.
