Basketball with Da Da

A few months back, we were at our friends house and Addy learned the word "ball" from her buddy Wendell. Ever since then she's loved that word. She hasn't been acquainted with other sports besides football and likes to hold her real football when she and Da Da watch it on TV every once in a while.

But now Addy has learned the word basketball; well sort of. "Batkcaball..." or something more or less.

Josh has begun a new season of coaching junior high basketball with his side kick coaches, Shawn and Jared. I just love watching them in action. For one, I never hear Josh yell so much as when he coaches and two, it's just plain special to watch these boys who were once in junior high with us, now coaching alongside Josh. I just really like it.

Last year Addy and I were able to attend a few of his games. She caught so many people's eyes and brought so many smiles to faces. We had a good time practicing cheering. Of course, last year Addy couldn't walk and sometimes the loud buzzers would get to her.

This year she wanted to get right out on the court and help her Da Da motivate those boys. Even though they lost, Josh seemed quite proud of them still. He's a good coach and he and his co-coaches really try to instill skills that will benefit them off the court as well. That's my sort of sport. Really, isn't that what our junior sports should be doing?

Addy was all excited to wake up and see Da Da the day of their first game. But when she didn't see him in the house and I told her that Mama had just made her a smoothie and snack cup to go see Da Da she quickly got excited and yup, she did her happy dance (which might be deemed Twirking...but whatever). Then on the way she grew super cranky and when we got inside the gym after a  little cold walk from the car to the front door her crankiness did not stop. They were at half time. Josh and the boys were in the side gym talking to the boys. And, Josh said he heard his little girl crying. When Da Da came around the corner I think she started to put two and two together. Perhaps she thought mom was tricking her and Da Da really wasn't here.

She LOVED watching the game. People and parents who knew her from last year couldn't believe how much she grew. I tried to keep her on the sidelines. She also had some great cheerleading efforts...a few good claps and giggles. I think we can safely say she can keep her day job. Whew!

Here are some pictures from that day, which are mostly shots from after the game and the coaches were just goofing off playing a round of "PIG."

And because memories are fun...here's last years basketball pictures. See any changes?
